What makes Jin Jun Mei so special?

What makes Jin Jun Mei so special is that it is made up of only tea buds (no rough, mature leaves). It means that it takes around 50,000 tiny buds just to make 500g of finished tea. Picking tea leaves is a very hard job. Those tiny buds are harvested by skilled tea pickers in spring by hand. After a long and cold Winter's dormant period, these buds are fresh and full of invigorating flavour. Once completely fermented, the finished tea leaves will have a downy and golden appearance and naturally sweet and delicate aroma. So the taste of high grade Jin Jun Mei black tea is very attractive.

The fresh tea leaves used to make Jin Jun Mei are picked in Tongmu village, the birthplace of black tea in the world. It is located in the core of Wuyishan National Nature Reserve in China. We can say that Jin Jun Mei black Tea is inextricably related to Lapsang Souchong, the former can be seen as a branch of the latter.
